Unemployment rate in the district remains at 3.7 percent – spring revival weaker than usual – Freiburg

In the agency district, which in addition to the city of Freiburg also includes the districts of Emmendingen and Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, 13,917 men and women were registered as unemployed as of the reporting date, 141 fewer than in April – the rounded unemployment rate remains at 3.7 percent. As always, the values ​​in the neighboring districts are better than in the city of Freiburg (5.0 percent): In Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald the rate is 3.1 percent, in Emmendingen it is only 2.7 percent. The spring revival on the labor market was weaker than usual, according to the deputy agency manager Anna Melchior, but it is “still very stable”. The prospects are rated as “cautiously optimistic”.

Fewer young unemployed

Youth unemployment among women and men under the age of 25 fell compared to the previous month – by 0.1 percentage points to 2.4 percent. The demand for labor is no longer as strong as last year: 1017 vacancies are currently reported by companies. That is 110 or 9.8 percent less than in April and 285 or 21.9 percent less than a year ago. But there is still a shortage of jobs, such as pedagogical specialists in day-care centers. A new training program is also to start here in Freiburg in autumn, which is aimed at those in employment, people returning to work and the unemployed who want to reorient themselves, but also at additional staff in day-care centers who want to acquire a recognized qualification.
