The government of former President Sebastián Piñera, shortly before finishing, presented the draft Universal Guaranteed Pensionthe one who seeks to leave behind the Solidarity Pillar created during the government of President Bachelet.
This benefit is provided by the State and administered by the Social Security Institute.granting pensions to the elderly, specifically to people who meet certain requirements.
The idea is to place pensioners above the poverty line, delivering an amount of $185,000 which, according to the government, would go up annually.
What are the requirements to obtain the PGU?
To acquire the Universal Guaranteed Pension, it must be taken into consideration that there are two payment groups. The first is between February and July 2022 and the other group starts in August this year.
Requirements for the first group
- Meet the same conditions to opt for the Solidarity Pillar
- Have reached the age of 65
- Integrate a family group belonging to the 60% most vulnerable
- Proof of residence in Chile for a period greater than 20 years, either continuous or discontinuous
- Be the last four years in Chile before submitting the application
- Have a base pension less than the higher pension (one million pesos)
Requirements for the second group
- Have reached the age of 65
- not being part of a family group belonging to the richest 10%
- Proof of residence in Chile for a period greater than 20 years, either continuous or discontinuous
- Be the last four years in Chile before submitting the application
Notably if you receive a CAPREDENA or DIPRECA pension they are not included in this benefit state.
How much will I receive from the PGU?
Everything will depend on your current pension, since if you receive a base retirement equal to or less than $ 630,000 you will access the maximum amount that is delivered with this benefit.
While if your pension is between $630,000 and $1,000,000, you will have access to a lower amount of the Universal Guaranteed Pension.
How do I know if I am a beneficiary or how to request the PGU?

When making the consultation, you will know if you receive the automatic payment or if you meet the conditions to request the contribution. In the latter case, the same site offers you the opportunity to enter your application, however, you need your Unique Password to do so.
Once the process is complete, the IPS will analyze your request and verify if you meet the requirements to receive the PGU.
