This weekend, a post was posted on “The Simpsons” official Twitter account showing the comic book family’s Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and baby Maggie with blue and yellow Ukrainian flags – and a text with hashtags like #TheSimpsons #Simpsons #Ukraine.
Al Jean, who is the executive producer of “The Simpsons”, says according to Deadline that making political illustrations is not common in the series’ repertoire, but that the Russian invasion of Ukraine is an appropriate exception.
– We do not do this very often, only very rarely when there is something… extremely important for a case that can not be bigger than this, Jean says to the website.
The drawing of Homer and the family with flags is done by animator and director David Silverman, who has been on board since “The Simpsons” saw the light of day in 1989, and he did it in collaboration with the series’ producer Jim Brooks and series creator Matt Groening and Al Jean .
– The intention is to show that we care about what is happening and have enormous sympathy for the Ukrainian people and want this to stop, the latter concludes.
