Up to 150 mm of precipitation expected in 24 hours in the Hérault this Wednesday

The Mediterranean episode evoked for a few days is confirmed. It will begin in the evening of this Tuesday and especially during the next night. This Wednesday, November 24, heavy precipitation occasionally stormy will fall between the Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude and Hérault. It is especially the sectors of Montagne-Noire, Minervois, Biterrois and even Espinouse and the Thau basin that will be exposed to the highest amounts of rain.

The most intense precipitation should occur on the coast and the low plains of the west of the Hérault department. This episode will continue until overnight from Wednesday to Thursday, before weakening Thursday morning. In 24 hours, the accumulations of rain can reach 100 to 150 mm. Blades of up to 200 mm cannot be excluded locally between the west of Languedoc and Roussillon.

The rivers will be able to react to this precipitation by experiencing floods which should remain moderate. However, it will be necessary to monitor the risk of localized overflows depending on the location of the most significant amounts of rainfall. Usual phenomena of runoff in urbanized areas and accumulation in low points will be possible. However, there is not likely to be any damaging flooding, according to current forecasts.

You will understand, this episode does not promise to be very intense. On the other hand, caution will remain essential as in each degradation of this type. Concerning the eastern part of the Hérault (Montpellier and its surroundings) as well as the whole of Gard, the rains will be much less sustained and will rather occur during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. The accumulations will be more modest, generally of the order of 30 to 50 mm or even up to 80 mm locally.

We will obviously follow the evolution of the situation in real time on Weather forecast Gard-Hérault.
