Updates are ready: iOS 15.5, iPadOS 15.5, watchOS 8.6 and tvOS 15.5 are available | News

It’s been eight months since Apple released iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 to all users. The September 20, 2021 release was followed by five more updates – the most recent is available now. During the test phase, Apple distributed four beta versions and one release candidate, publicizing the most important innovations in advance. As in the case of macOS 12.4, most of the adjustments are made under the hood – although there are some changes to be found in the iPhone and iPad operating systems as well. We summarize these below.

iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5
If you open the system settings on the iPhone or iPad, you will find the corresponding update there. The update description does not document far-reaching changes, but it does document some improvements and changes. Somewhat controversial is the decision that photos from “sensitive places” no longer appear in automatically generated memories – and the definition of this is up to Apple. Apple also made preparations to support external payments. Although this does not appear in the description, it could be discovered in strings.

It was also noticeable that Apple completely erased the “iTunes” brand name and the iTunes pass has now become Apple credit – and users in the USA can request or send money directly from the wallet via Apple Pay. As always with system updates for iOS and iPadOS, an update for the HomePod is also available (“audioOS 15.5”).

Release Notes
In the official release notes, Apple documents the improvements as follows:

watchOS 8.5 and tvOS 15.5
As always, the Apple Watch and the Apple TV are particularly clear, innovations outside of the annual cycle are very rare. Again, there are only minor improvements and bug fixes. Only users in Mexico will receive a major update, where the ECG function will be available on the Apple Watch for the first time.
