US accuses Russia of violating the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty amid constant threat of nuclear war

The United States accused Russia of violating provisions of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, or New START, the only remaining nuclear arms control treaty between the two countries. The US State Department said Tuesday that the Russian government has refused to allow inspections on its territory. Russia has said it is complying with most of the terms of the treaty, but that it cannot allow US inspections of its strategic facilities as the United States and Russia are on opposite sides of the war in Ukraine. Antiwar activists have warned that the threat of nuclear war is at an all time high in human history due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
