A US Border Patrol Supervisor was charged with murdering four women during a two-week rampage in Texas, which ended when a fifth woman escaped from him and found help.
Juan David Ortiz was arrested on Saturday after being found in a truck in a hotel car park in Laredo.
Webb district attorney Isidro Alaniz said he had been charged with murder in four cases, serious personal injury and unlawful restraint.
The victims, who worked as prostitutes, had been murdered since 3 September. Alaniz said the authorities consider Ortiz a serial killer.
The names of the victims were not published, but Alaniz said that there are two US citizens. Nationalities of the others are not yet known.
