What a way to rain triples! Utah had 28 baskets from the three-point line (a franchise record) and 10 of them came in a fourth quarter in which they sent Charlotte to the canvas with a 41-20 run. The Jazz are still in shape and last night they achieved their 21st victory in the last 23 games by defeating North Carolina 132-110.
Of those 28 total triples, 19 came from the bench, which is the absolute NBA record for any group of substitutes according to statistics from ESPN. Georges Niang achieved seven for 21 total points, Joe Ingles presented the same card and Jordan Clarkson contributed another 20 points including five triples. The pace of Salt Lake City from the perimeter was insane, especially in a fourth quarter in which 10 of their 15 baskets were three points. They went from winning by one point at the end of the third quarter (91-90) to winning by 19 in less than four minutes (111-92). Game over.
“The number one team in the league wins a game like this. That is where our mind is and that is where we must continue to have it. We looked good on offense, but the most important thing was our defensive energy. We increased the intensity and that made things more difficult for them, says Donovan Mitchell, who finished with 23 points and 8 assists.
Nothing is certain yet, but Utah’s streak has placed them comfortably in first place in the Western Conference with a 25-6 record, or the same, with 3.5 games of advantage over the two Angels (Clippers and Lakers).
Charlotte fell short
The Hornets are having a good season, and for three quarters they not only maintained the level against Utah, but they got to be 11 points to arrive in the third period. Finally they could not take the victory, something that a LaMelo Ball regrets that would end with 21 points and 7 rebounds. “I feel that a certain fatigue appeared in everyone. We didn’t get to add four rooms together, it was three ”.
For James Borrego the problem in the fourth quarter was how offensive mistakes affected intensity at the back. “We couldn’t score and we couldn’t put our defense together. That’s the challenge with a young group when you’re not scoring, can you run and still have the same intensity?
In addition to LaMelo’s good game, in the Hornets the game of Gordon Hayward stood out, who signed 21 points in the return to what was his first team in the NBA, as well as the 20 points that Malik Monk obtained from the bench.
