Top scorer in the history of HBC Nantes, Spanish winger Valero Rivera is once again having a top-flight season.
Valero Rivera and HBC Nantes is a great love story. Last summer, the Spanish winger extended the adventure with the “H” for another 2 years, extending his contract until 2023. “I always had this special thing with Nantes”, then declared the person concerned. And we understand why…
A first visit in 2010
In 2010, then just 25 years old, he put his bags for the first time in France near Nantes. After a good first season under the colors of the “H”, it was the consecration: the HBCN finished in 4th place in the championship, then the best ranking in the history of the club, and Valero Rivera was voted best Starligue player. Two years later, his maddening statistics allow him to participate in the London Olympics in 2012, with the Spanish selection. After 6 years spent in Nantes for a total of 154 matches played and 985 goals, he left the banks of the Loire to return to settle in his hometown, and joined FC Barcelona.
After 2 years in the colors of the Blaugrana, the Spanish international is making a comeback in France. Rivera has a clear objective: he wants to continue to mark the history of the club. “I am very happy to have extended because that is what I wanted. I wanted to stay at the club, to continue to write the history of the “H”, and my particular history with this team. I am very proud to wear this jersey for another 2 years”, declared the winger last summer.
Very attached to this team and its values, Valero Rivera has once again marked the history of his club this season. He has largely exceeded the 1,600 goal mark for Nantes. Now, the time of retirement is approaching for the Spaniard, who is under contract until 2023. With the status of former, he must accompany the new generation of Nantes. This role seems to suit him perfectly.
