The Chancellor of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, regretted this Thursday the death of the prominent Chilean human rights defender, Angela Jeira, mother of Michelle Bachelet, high commissioner of the United Nations Organization for Human Rights.

Through his account on the social network Twitter @jaarreaza, the Head of the Venezuelan Diplomacy published the following:

Gómez was born in the city of Talca and worked as an archaeologist. During her life she was able to witness the injustices committed by the dictator Augusto Pinochet, since her sentimental partner, General of the Air Brigade, Alberto Bachelet, was the victim of torture.

After the coup d’état, human rights defender Ángela Jeira, who died at 93, was arrested and taken to the Villa Grimaldi and Cuatro Álamos torture centers.

Upon hearing the news of his death, the Chilean Chamber of Deputies paid a minute of silence to join the pain of the Bachelet Jeria family.

Likewise, the University of Chile community expressed its regret at the physical departure of Ángela Jeria Gómez, who worked for the institution for almost 20 years, where she served as Director of Budget and Finance. / maye
