Dynamo has an A national player again! Claudio Kammerknecht (23) was called up for the Sri Lanka team for the first time.

The newcomer from SC Freiburg II was born in Breisgau, but has Asian roots. His mom comes from the island state in the Indian Ocean.

“Sri Lanka is like a second home for me,” the central defender revealed when he signed. “Grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles, cousins live there.”

His sister Linda Rose, who shares his native language Sinhala, was voted Miss Sri Lanka in Europe in 2018.

Now Kammerknecht Dynamos becomes “Mister Sri Lanka”.

The central defender made it into the starting eleven in Dresden straight away. In the first nine third-division games, he was on the pitch eight times for the full season, and with two goals he is the most dangerous defender in the black and yellow.

His good performances did not go unnoticed by the Sri Lankan Football Association. National coach Andy Morrison invited Kammerknecht to Doha, where he is doing a training camp with his teammates.

The call-up to the Sri Lankan national team is a dream come true for the defender. “Of course it’s a developing country, the infrastructure isn’t as good as here,” he says. “But for me it’s a bit normal because I grew up with it.”

Dynamo’s number 15 is expected back in Dresden on Tuesday to prepare with the SGD for the away game in Bayreuth (October 1st).
