A car bomb exploded near a military post in the city of Raqqa on Sunday, killing one civilian and wounding several people, including civilians and gunmen, security forces said.

The Syrian Observatory confirmed in a statement that the explosion left a large number of victims, without further details about the incident.

The organization claimed responsibility for the attack, and said it targeted fighters from units of protection of the Kurdish people, the most powerful faction in the Syrian Democratic forces, which expelled the extremists from tenderness last year.

The blast occurred a day after the assassination of a local official in the city, one of the main strongholds of the Daqash organization, before losing a year ago in a process of the Syrian Democratic Forces.

The Observatory said extremists took advantage of Sunday's bad weather to attack the positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces, killing 12 troops.
