A New York City restaurant serves up a plate of French fries for $200, making them the most expensive French fries in the world.
According to the Independent, Serendipity 3, a restaurant in the city’s Midtown East neighbourhood, has set a new Guinness World Record for its crème de la crème fries. Crème de la Crème Pommes Frites
French fries are made in copious amounts of truffle butter and edible gold, and are served on a crystal plate.
This is not the first world record held by the restaurant, which also includes the most expensive burger, which sells for a single piece at 295 US dollars, and the most expensive ice cream, which sells for a thousand dollars.
The French fries, which were entered in the Guinness Book of Records on July 12, contain a variety of white potatoes grown in the United States that have been called “the world’s greatest frying potatoes.”
While the potatoes are being prepared and fried, another chef in the kitchen prepares a cheese sauce to accompany the dish. This is done by melting a lot of truffle butter in a pan, and adding flour, cream, and cubes of Swiss raclette.
French fries are served on a crystal plate, topped with truffle shells, pecorino cheese from the Crete Senese island in Tuscany, Italy, and 23-karat edible gold.
The dish was named the “world’s most expensive French fries” earlier this month. Since then, its popularity has skyrocketed and the waiting period to try these potatoes is now 8-10 weeks.
