"I just think it's a shame when you see players who made a career like me, when they're footballers at a young age, then they see how they finish and they just go away from the game.

"Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard have moved into management and I think it's brilliant for both of them, it's the right time for young English managers to compete in the Premier League in two or three years to try to take them away," he added.

When asked if he was authoritarian, he continued, "One of the best ways to start as a manager is to be honest with your players, but also to know your players and know how to handle them.

"I think that sometimes management is more important than the training you do."
