Offenbach (dpa / lrs) – March 2022 was also the sunniest in Rhineland-Palatinate since records began in 1951. As the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Wednesday in Offenbach, the sun shone for almost 230 hours. March 2022 thus replaced the previous March 2011 leader. At that time, a good 205 hours of sunshine were measured.

The long-term average of the international reference period 1961-1990 was 111 hours of sunshine for Rhineland-Palatinate. In a comparison of the federal states, Rhineland-Palatinate was one of the less sunny countries in March 2022, as reported by the DWD.

The average temperature for Rhineland-Palatinate was 6.3 degrees in March, well above the average of 4.2 degrees. With a precipitation balance of 30 liters per square meter, Rhineland-Palatinate was the federal state with the most precipitation. The long-term average for March in Rhineland-Palatinate is 65 liters per square meter.
