Week in Sloth

Thursday 14th

"Dating Around" (Netflix streaming anytime) I find it bad that Netflix subscribers are not flooded with as many interchangeable reality dating shows as people with cable television. Well, that's over now.

"The Pacific: After Captain Cook with Sam Neill" (Ovation 8 pm) Australian actor Sam Neill traverses the South Pacific in the footsteps of Captain James Cook, about 350 years after this epic exploration. Along the way: Meet with the descendants of the people Cook has met and challenge the lasting effects of this controversial historical figure.

Friday 15

"Doom Patrol" (DC Direct Streaming anytime) Tired of seeing "Titans"? Damned by "Young Justice: Outsider"? DC Comics' subscription TV service adds its third series, a live-action adaptation of the "weird hero" comic "Doom Patrol." Among the crazy crimefighters: Cyborg (Joivan Wade), Robotman (Brendan Fraser), Mr. Nobody (Alan) Tudyk), Elasti-Woman (April Bowlby) and Negative Man (Matt Bomer and Matthew Zuk).

"Umbrella Academy" (Netflix streaming anytime) The iconic comic series by Gerard Way (singer of My Chemical Romance) comes to life in a live action series. Interestingly, Way's series "Weird Heroes" was heavily inspired by "Doom Patrol." In an alternative 1970s America, dozens of superpower babies are inexplicably born at the same time. A mysterious philanthropist known as "The Monocle" accepts several children and trains them as superheroes in a secret academy. Years later, the now adult (and to a large extent dysfunctional) children meet to solve the murder of their father through a familiar supervillain.

"Larry Charles Dangerous Comedy World" (Netflix Streaming Anytime) Writer/Manufacturer/Director Larry Charles ("Seinfeld", "Curb Your Enthusiasm") travels around the world seeking stand-up comedians who practice their art in literal and figurative minefields (Turkey, Iraq, Somalia, Saudi Arabia).

Kim Possible (Disney 9 pm) Early 2000s, rejoice! Disney Crimefighting, world-saving superspy-teens (not to mention buddy Ron Stoppable), is leaving the animation with newcomer Sadie Stanley on this live action update.

Saturday the 16th

Olivia Newton-John: Dedicated to you hopelessly (Lifetime 6pm) Australian singer / actress Olivia Newton-John receives the (not very) scandal-filled biopic treatment courtesy of Lifetime.

Sunday 17

"Elvis All-Star Tribute" (KOB-4 8pm) Music superstars (including Blake Shelton, Shawn Mendes, Keith Urban, Ed Sheeran, Kelsea Ballerini, Jennifer Lopez, Darius Rucker, John Fogerty, John Legend, Adam Lambert, Josh Groban and – I'm sorry to report – Post Malone) Presley's famous comeback special & # 39; 68.

Monday 18

United skates (HBO 6:00 pm) The historical interface between roller skating and African-American culture is explored in this boogie-filled documentary that highlights three dedicated skaters struggling to save their home-like skating rinks.

Tuesday 19

Rocky IV (AMC 8:30 pm) In the year 2018 hit drama Creed II, Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) trained Apollo Creed Adonis Creed's son (Michael B. Jordan) against Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), son of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren). Of course, Ivan Drago was the guy who killed Adonis & # 39; s father in the ring 33 years ago. So it seems to be a good time to look back at the 1985 film that launched this boring grudge match.

Wednesday, 20

"Documentation now!" (IFC 9:00 pm) Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and Seth Meyer's perfect spoof parody come back for a third season. First, Owen Wilson and Michael Keaton in a posting of Cult Commanders of the 60s.
