Weekend tip: Visit Rimowa’s “As Seen By” exhibition on their last stop in Berlin

Rimowa: The “As Seen By” exhibition is making its final stop in Berlin until November 14, 2022.

Whether at the airport or at the train station: the recognition value of your own luggage can definitely be decisive. The Rimowa brand recognized this back in 1937 and created a true icon when it comes to luggage with its aluminum cases – thanks to the strikingly shiny aluminum and the grooved surface. An independent exhibition has now been dedicated to the cult surrounding the suitcase – which Rimowa curated in cooperation with the art collective “The Community”.

That’s what Rimowa’s “As Seen By” exhibition is all about

The art exhibition focuses on works that deal with the raw materials used to manufacture the iconic aluminum cases. The various objects sometimes provide completely new perspectives on the well-known silver-colored material of the Rimowa suitcase and illuminate it from new, unexpected angles. This has resulted in a wide variety of works of art (in addition to suitcases, chairs, chests or items of clothing), which nevertheless harmonize perfectly with each other due to the common materials.

What would make more sense than sending an art exhibition about suitcases on a literal journey? Even. And so the “As Seen By” exhibition started in October 2021 in Paris and had subsequent stops in Miami, Milan, Seoul, Hong Kong, Beijing and Tokyo – each in cooperation with local artists, creative studios or furniture designers. One year and seven countries later, the traveling exhibition will come to an end in Berlin in November 2022 – and will remain open to visitors until Monday, November 14, 2022.

The great thing: In Berlin, for the first time, Rimowa is showing the collected works of over 60 artists who worked on the project during the worldwide trip. Additionally, never-before-seen artworks created specifically for the finale will be on display.
