Werder Bremen will tie Anthony Jung beyond the season. Nevertheless, a new left-back should come in the summer.
The contract poker around Anthony Jung is about to end! After some back and forth, SV Werder and the left-back have agreed on a one-year extension (90min reported). Loud Bild-The new deal will be officially confirmed shortly.
But that doesn’t mean that planning for the left-back position is complete. The tabloid has learned that the green-whites still want to get a new man for the left side. “It’s not over yet,” confirmed Werder manager Clemens Fritz Bild. The ex-professional justified this by saying that Jung was “very flexible”. “We trust him to play in the middle too, so we’re keeping our eyes open. If there’s an opportunity that will help us, then we’ll look into it.”
In recent months, the Hanseatic League has been linked with Leart Paqarada (moves to 1. FC Köln instead) and Maxi Mittelstädt (ultimately extended at Hertha BSC), but both times went away empty-handed. The desire to add more to the back left still seems to be there.
Jung’s deputy Lee Buchanan, who switched from Derby County to Osterdeich before the season started, has not been able to exert any pressure so far – so it is conceivable that the youngster will be loaned out in the summer.
