The risk of chronic diseases increases with age. Seven foods such as coffee, sugar or meat promote inflammation in diabetes, arthrosis and rheumatism.
For more and more people, chronic inflammation is the cause of complaints and diseases such as Hashimoto’s as severe inflammation of the thyroid gland, diabetes, rheumatism, arthrosis or acne. The term chronic means “slowly developing”, “insidious”, “long-lasting”. Diseases that do not heal completely and therefore require continuous treatment become chronic. In medicine, we now know that certain chronic inflammatory processes can be aggravated or even improved by nutrition German Society for Nutrition e. V. Hibiscus tea (Hibiscus sabdariffa) could represent a new approach to adjunctive therapy for autoimmune diseases such as diabetes, rheumatism and multiple sclerosis (MS).
Chronic inflammation: seven foods promote rheumatism, arthrosis, diabetes and acne
Scientists and physicians assume that several million people in Germany suffer from chronic inflammatory diseases. In addition to allergies, cardiovascular diseases, cancer and dementia, chronic diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes, rheumatism and acne are among the diseases whose development can be favored by improper nutrition.

An unbalanced diet can have a significant impact on inflammatory processes, with the lack of anti-inflammatory substances in certain foods having a significant impact.
Chronic Inflammation – 1. Sugar promotes diabetes and rheumatism
Industrially produced household sugar contains glucose and fructose. Eating more than 25 grams a day can increase your risk of rheumatism, type 2 diabetes and, last but not least, obesity World Health Organization (WHO). High sugar consumption can promote inflammatory processes in the body.
Chronic Inflammation – 2. Meat and sausage can promote high blood pressure
Processed meat, sausages and cold cuts often contain non-negligible amounts of sugar and salt. Both are considered inflammatory. High blood pressure, for example, can be promoted by a high salt content, as it increases the risk of vasoconstriction.
Chronic Inflammation – 3. Alcohol can trigger inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract
The body needs a lot of energy and stomach acid to digest alcohol. With regular alcohol consumption, a constantly higher amount of stomach acid can lead to inflammation and damage in the gastrointestinal area such as the esophagus. In addition, alcohol promotes inflammation in the liver and pancreas.
Chronic Inflammation – 4. Too much coffee can increase markers of inflammation in the blood
Coffee is not harmful per se – here, too, it is the amount that makes the difference in what is triggered in the body. If you drink more than two cups a day, the inflammatory markers in the blood can be activated. Therefore, coffee is suspected of causing cardiovascular diseases.
Chronic Inflammation – 5. Trans fats promote “negative” cholesterol levels and atherosclerosis
Trans fats are considered “artificial” fats and are labeled “hydrogenated” and “partially hydrogenated” on packaging. These “hydrogenated fats” are commonly found in convenience foods, fried foods, and candy. When eating these fats, the cholesterol level can rise sharply, it accumulates in the vessels, which can increase the risk of high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke. The development of inflammatory processes in connection with cancer can also be favored by unhealthy fats.
Chronic Inflammation – 6. White flour products contribute to intestinal inflammation, diabetes and acne
Eating white flour has been shown to raise blood sugar because it contains fewer minerals and fiber. Little fiber in the intestine can promote constipation, which can also cause possible inflammatory processes. In addition, a fluctuating blood sugar level increases the risk of “cravings”, so that in the long term weight gain with fat storage can be the result. This in turn promotes possible resistance to insulin and thus the development of type 2 diabetes. If you eat more white flour, pro-inflammatory intestinal bacteria can multiply. Ultimately, this can result in chronic inflammatory bowel disease or even colon cancer.
Chronic Inflammation – 7. Dairy products, eggs and red meat increase the risk of osteoarthritis
Eggs, dairy products, and red meat contain something called arachidonic acid, which can promote inflammation in the body. This acid belongs to the group of omega-6 fatty acids and is mainly found in animal foods such as meat, butter and offal. To prevent arthrosis, you should therefore eat a lot of green vegetables and little meat.
As with many things in nutrition, the amount makes the “poison.” Therefore, the foods mentioned do not have to be eliminated from the menu right away – but in the case of chronic diseases, avoiding them could contribute to milder or fewer symptoms. To prevent or minimize chronic inflammation and disease, focus more on foods and foods that experts say have anti-inflammatory properties.
