In its annual ranking of the most popular applications, App Annie, the specialist in download data, points to a top 5 almost unchanged compared to 2018.
"The ranking is not changing because the app market has reached maturity and the biggest players are able to implement strategies that leave little room for others" comments Thierry Guiot, director of App Annie for Europe in South.
The free WhatsApp messaging application (Facebook) is both the most downloaded from the App Store and the Play Store, but also has the most active monthly users.
Vinted and TikTok join the dance
Its cousin, Facebook Messenger, is the 2nd most downloaded but only the 3rd most open on French smartphones because it is outstripped by the social network… Facebook.

"France has a particular appetite for the consumption of video, in particular replay," says the App Annie expert. "The French also use FinTech applications like Lydia or Bankin and are well placed compared to other major countries in the use of shopping apps" he summarizes.
The Vinted clothing resale application has also appeared in this ranking.
The social network of short videos TikTok remains at the same level of downloads despite several controversies over the hosted content.

When it comes to charging the user, the Tinder, AdopteUnMec, Lovoo and Happn apps are doing well.
Deezer also manages to convert paid subscriptions just like YouTube which manages to get their credit cards out to members who want to remove the ads and access the premium music offer Music.
