Who is Ri Sol-ju? Wife of North Korean Dictator Kim Jong-un

JAKARTA – Ri Sol-ju has appeared in photos for years accompanying her husband Kim Jong-un on state visits. But who exactly is the wife of the young North Korean dictator?

Very little is known about Ri, including her real age, who her parents were and what her life was like before marrying Kim Jong-un.

Even her name remains a mystery, as observers believe Ri is actually a pseudonym designed to keep her life a secret before marriage.

Quoted from Daily Mail, Saturday (24/9/2022), He was first photographed on Kim Jong-un’s arm in 2012 at a concert. North Korea later confirmed she was Kim’s wife, but said nothing more about her.

She then appeared with him several times between 2012 and 2014 before disappearing from public view until recently, when his presence became much more apparent.

Sources who spoke to South Korean media when she was first identified said Ri was a former cheerleader and singer, and gave her birth year between 1985 and 1989.

She is said to have visited South Korea in 2005 during the Asian Athletics Championships as part of the North Korean cheerleading squad.

Another source said he was an Unhasu orchestra singer who may have performed for Kim Jong-un and preferred his father, Kim Jong-il, during a New Year’s concert in 2010.

“It is possible that Jong-un chose her as his wife after seeing her at the concert hall,” the Chosun Ilbo newspaper said at the time.
