Why Princess Elisabeth was the only one wearing a purple ribbon in Oslo

Elisabeth and her mother Queen Mathilde were guests at the gala dinner in honor of Princess Ingrid Alexandra’s birthday. It was a grand event where all kinds of monarchs and their successors from all over Europe were guests.

Elisabeth was dressed for the occasion in a purple dress with a purple ribbon. This is the purple Grootslint in the Order of Leopold. A present she received from her father, King Philippe, on her 18th birthday. The Order of Leopold is the highest and oldest Belgian decoration. In addition to the purple ribbon, she also received a white breast star with the inscription ‘Unity makes power’, the motto of Belgium. She also wore this on her prom dress.
