Channel 5 has confirmed that Big Brother roommate Ellis Hillon has been removed from the house less than 24 hours after the start of the new series.

The news about the removal of the 19-year-old was confirmed on Saturday on the Twitter page of the broadcast.

But why did Ellis leave the house so early?

Here's what you need to know.

Who is Ellis Hillon and why was she removed from Big Brother?

Ellis is a fast food worker from Glasgow. He was one of 14 people who entered the house on Channel 5 during the launch show on Friday.

But soon after the series began, it became known that Ellis had released some offensive historical tweets, with two being highlighted – one on the 9/11 attacks.

One who was split when Ellis was 15 years old in September 2014 read: "Oh damn, this is September 11. RIP to all who died n fuck they stink p ** I terrorist bastards. & # 39 ;

Another, which followed on January 24, 2015, read: "Real n **** s #sbo."

After the allegations were reported, Big Brother confirmed that they were investigating the claims and later confirmed that Ellis was no longer a roommate.

"As a result of our investigation into offensive and unreasonable social media posts, Ellis Hillon was removed from the Big Brother house," it said in her tweet.

It comes after Ellis' sister, who managed a new Twitter account for her under the @hillonellis handle, denied that such tweets had been posted.

She said, "There were no bad tweets !!! People just talk trash and do wrong things." There will be no negativity here and my sister will shine. Good night !!!! & # 39;

The controversy follows an incident in Celebrity Big Brother's latest series in which Rodrigo Alves was given a warning twice for using the N-word.

He was later removed from the house after a "further incident", although details of this incident were not revealed.

A similar fate befell Tila Tequila 2015 (Image: PA)

Overall, Ellis spent only 19 hours at the Big Brother House – making her the shortest in history – but she's not the first person to be removed from the house due to social media posts.

Tila Tequila was also ejected by Celebrity Big Brother in 2015 after the show bosses were made aware of a 2013 post in which she posed in a Nazi uniform in front of a concentration camp image.

When is Big Brother on?

The new series continues on Sunday evening at 21 o'clock on channel 5.
