United States.- Will Smith will play the lead role in a new movie Netflix titled The Family Man, which would be his first live action comedy since the remake of Disney of Aladdin in 2019. According to the media Giant Freaking Robot the actor’s new movie Shark Tale sIt will be a new version of the classic story of a husband and father who finds himself having to take care of his own children. The film will be directed by Andy Tennant, who previously worked with Will Smith on the 2005 romantic comedy Hitch.
The Family Man will star Will Smith as a busy and successful businessman who finds himself the primary caretaker for his own children after his wife leaves town on her own business. As of now, there’s no indication if the roles of his wife or his children have been cast, but it seems fair to assume that the film will be primarily a Will Smith vehicle above all else. Although the actor Bad Boys was once known for his comedic roles, thanks in no small part to his iconic sitcom The Prince of rap, It’s been a few years since Smith made that his main selling point.
It is interesting that Will Smith re-enters the world of comedy with The Family Manwhich has a premise straight out of the 1990s 1980. While the idea of a man not being able to handle caring for his own children was novel, for example, in the movie Michael Keaton, Mr. Mom in 1983, it looks somewhat retrograde in 2023.
Short of going too high a concept and portraying the Smith children as some sort of demonic troublemakers (as, for example, the movie by John Ritter, Problem Child in 1990), The Family Man doesn’t have the kind of hook it once did.
On the other hand, Will Smith might be trying to aim for a tried and true formula with The Family Man in his continued efforts to reclaim his status as one of the world’s most beloved stars. After the notorious incident in which she slapped the comedian Chris Rock for making a joke at the expense of his wife Jada Pinkett Smith at the ceremony of Academy Awards 2022, Smith seemed in real danger of disappearing from the pop culture. Several of his future projects were canceled and even Tom Cruise sI was supposedly doing everything I could to avoid it, which has to hurt.
However, in recent months, Will Smith has been cautiously returning to the public good graces. He looks like he’s planning to play it safe right now, making sequels to proven hits like Bad Boys 4 y I Am Legend 2, and now, teaming up with the world’s biggest streaming platform and a previous directing partner for what looks like a crowd-pleasing four-quadrant comedy. If nothing else, you have to give him credit for being strategic.
