Winner at Nantes-Rezé, Chaumont remains solidly third

The last poster of the 9th day of Men’s League A saw Chaumont win in the tiebreak on the Nantes-Rezé floor and strengthen his third place.

While Narbonne, Montpellier and Sète had won this Tuesday, Chaumont had to react. Traveling on the floor of Nantes-Rezé, which remained on a victory in Toulouse last weekend, the players of Silvano Prandi have long believed that a relatively easy success was emerging. Racing in the lead most of the time but never taking more than three points in advance, the Chaumontais missed two first set points before achieving their ends. A more or less similar scenario animated the second round except that the teammates of Jesus Herrera (31 points) led the race from start to finish with a gap ranging from two to four points. The third set point, too, was the right one to allow Chaumont to make the break. With their backs to the wall, the people of Nantes reacted brilliantly. Leading the score for most of the third set, Davy Moraes Silva’s teammates (20 points) delayed the deadline significantly.

Chaumont ended up recovering

A trend which was very clearly confirmed in an almost one-sided fourth set. Chaumont was only able to take the lead on two occasions and only one point ahead each time. More enterprising, Hubert Henno’s players went for a tiebreak that seemed difficult to imagine earlier in this meeting. A final round which however saw Chaumont react to avoid a real snub. Racing in the lead, almost from start to finish, Silvano Prandi’s players ended up having the last word (23-25, 22-25, 25-18, 25-20, 11-15). A two-point victory which allows them to regain a three-point margin over Montpellier and Sète to consolidate their third place, but Narbonne’s lead goes to two lengths. Nantes, beaten for the third time in four games, has moved up to sixth place.
