Wirecard Committee: Auditors do not want to testify

DThe auditors summoned do not want to testify in the committee of inquiry into the Wirecard accounting scandal in the coming week. This emerges from three attorneys’ letters to the committee that are available to the German Press Agency. Accordingly, the employees of the company EY rely on their duty of confidentiality as auditors. The fact that the insolvency administrator has released them does not change anything, the lawyers explain in the letters.

As an auditing company, EY audited Wirecard’s annual financial statements. The company is under fire because the billions fraud was not discovered earlier. The auditors in the committee should be interviewed next Thursday.

The representatives of the FDP, the Greens and the Left in the committee clearly criticized the refusal. EY plays a decisive role, “there are many indications of failure in the final exam,” said FDP MP Florian Toncar.

The left-wing MP Fabio De Masi emphasized: “Anyone who, like EY, is always at the door for public contracts from the federal government, must also appear in parliament.” Danyal Bayaz of the Greens said that the auditors should appear before the committee despite their refusal – and until then “to decide whether you really want to refuse to contribute to the political education”.

The MPs announced that they would do everything legally possible to get a statement from the auditor – also because the information was important to avoid similar cases in the future.
