Woman arrested after mysterious death of former supermarket owner Halsteren

The person who has now been determined to have died unnaturally is Chris Grinwis from Halsteren. Grinwis was a well-known figure in this village in the municipality of Bergen op Zoom, partly because he owned a Plus supermarket. He sold that supermarket two years ago. A few months later, in May last year, his wife passed away.

When he himself died suddenly on December 9, it was not immediately clear that something strange was going on. Doctors speak of a natural death. After doubts from next of kin – according to BN de Stem he had had his will amended shortly before – the police nevertheless started an investigation.

Extensive criminal investigation

A few days after his death, an autopsy on the remains was performed at the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI). The police also launched an extensive investigation. “It is now clear that there has been an unnatural death,” the police said in a press release.

Suspect arrested

The police have also arrested a suspect. It concerns a 62-year-old woman from Tilburg. She is suspected of being involved in the death of the former supermarket owner. The police cannot say whether it is the nurse Grinwis had hired to care for his wife.

Whether Chris Grinwis’ wife, Mia, died unnaturally is still under investigation. Her body was exhumed in late August for forensic examination.
