WHAT IS POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME?

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a common disease affecting the function of a woman's ovaries.

The three main functions of PCOS are:

  • Irregular periods – ie the ovaries do not give eggs regularly (ovulation). This can affect a woman's ability to become pregnant.
  • Excessive androgen – High levels of "male hormones" in the body that can cause physical signs such as excessive facial or body hair.
  • Polycystic Ovaries – The ovaries are enlarged and contain many fluid-filled blisters (follicles) that surround the eggs (it is important to note that despite the name PCOS has no cysts if you have PCOS).

"Before I lost weight, I lived in black and on weekends in jeans and a nice top, usually from Asda, as this was the easiest place to buy plus size clothes," she said.

"Well, I choose what I want to wear and not what I should wear to cover up.

"I wear tight-fitting clothes that match my hourglass figure, and I even wear clothes.

"Before results with Lucy, I think I wore a dress three times in my life, and one of those was my wedding dress!"

Take-away on Fridays is a thing of the past. Now Alanoosh does everything from scratch and cooks healthy alternatives like lentil curry or protein rich salads.

Because of their condition, however, even the smallest diet can lead to a large and unexpected weight gain.

Alanoosh is now determined to keep her new hourglass body, even if she occasionally falls out of the car – and says her new diet plan is "not a tedious task."
