The German basketball players are close to the successful qualification for the 2019 World Cup in China. With a sovereign performance Dennis Schröder & Co. keep their perfect record in the victory in Estonia.

TALLINN (AP) – Led by Dennis Schröder, the German basketball players have made the next big step to the 2019 World Cup in China with a gala performance.

Oklahoma City Thunder's team of NBA professionals kept their perfect record at 86:43 (49:24) in Estonia and celebrated their seventh win in the seventh qualifier. Thus, the team of coach Henrik Rödl could already eliminate in the duel with Israel on Sunday in Leipzig, the last doubts about the sixth German World Cup participation.

The selection of the German Basketball Federation could not be deterred by the mood damper by the two defeats in the Supercup in the preparation. Aufbauspieler Schröder was the best thrower on 18 points and gave ten assists. "It's never easy to win away. But we were very well prepared and played an excellent defense. That's a good win for us and on Sunday we want to remain unbeaten, "said coach Rödl. "I'm proud of the performance of my team."

Maik Zirbes and Danilo Barthel were also able to convince with the highest international victory for more than four years, each with twelve counters. "We were very focused today, but the clarity of the victory does not matter," said Zirbes. "We wanted to focus on our game, and we did."

Schröder put his teammates well from the start. First, the 24-year-old put on the Berlin Niels Giffey for the first hit three-point throw of the guests and then served Zirbes, who scored the Dunk 10: 5. The favorite continued to settle until the 26:15 at the end of the first quarter, especially Zirbes played his physical advantages under the basket.

The Estonians had trembled with two wins from six games in the crucial qualifying phase – and also in the duel with Germany showed a clear class difference. The Rödl selection delivered a concentrated defensive performance, met at will and distributed the offensive load: By the middle of the second section had already met nine of the twelve players of the squad.

Unlike the defeats against Turkey and Italy at the Supercup last weekend, the German team was also able to compensate for the absence of captain Robin Benzing. The power forward is still with his new team Besiktas Istanbul, a possible return to the game against Israel decides, according to the German Basketball Association from day to day.

Despite the superiority Rödl admonished his team at the Estonians for defensive concentration. "Three throws in a row completely free, that will not work," scolded the European champion from 1993 in a break. But at no time the victory was in danger, so offered the chance to magic. NBA pro Maximilian Kleber scored points after Schröder's Alley-oop attack, while ex-Braunschweiger's pass through his legs on Zirbes provided the next highlight.

With 43 points ahead of the German team went into the last quarter – and managed the lead confidently.
