Xiaomi is still working with many smartphones, all ranges combined. However, the next model of the Chinese brand could be distinguished by its 6.55-inch OLED screen. Nothing incredible here, it is rather its big 4K definition that attracts the attention. As a reminder, this is equivalent to 3840 x 2160 pixels.
This would be a first for Xiaomi, but not for the industry. Until recently, we saw the Sony Xperia 1 III ship a panel with this same definition. Still, 4K on smartphones is a small rarity. The mobile market is more used to Full HD and QHD. Before going any further, it is good to clarify where this information comes from. The device was seen during a certification granted by TENAA.
SOME TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS IN ADDITION TO 4K
This body is responsible for reviewing telecommunications products in order to approve or not their marketing in China. In other words, this smartphone with model number 2109119BC could soon be presented by Xiaomi. It should in fact be known that certification by TENAA generally precedes the marketing of a product by a few weeks. It is therefore not impossible to hear about it again by the end of 2021.
Thanks to this certification, we also discover some technical details about the 2109119BC smartphone in addition to the design it should sport.
So count on 12 GB of RAM for a storage space of 512 GB. There is also talk of three cameras on the back: a 64-megapixel sensor accompanied by two other 8-megapixels. The TENAA also evokes a 4400 mAh battery. Even the dimensions and weight are indicated: 158 x 71.5 x 7 mm (it’s quite thin) for 166 grams on the scale.
Some might believe that this future smartphone will inevitably rise to the star of Xiaomi’s high-end segment. However, the features unveiled on the SoC (eight-core, 2.4 GHz) are more akin to a mid-range Snapdragon 778G than a premium chip.
4K, WHAT FOR?
One question remains: who needs a 4K display? Admittedly, the quality promises to be excellent, but it would really take an ultra keen eye to differentiate between 4K and QHD on a smartphone diagonal. At least, not until you literally glue your pupils to the slab to try and make out the pixels.
In addition, 4K necessarily consumes more energy than a lower definition. It has much more interest on a television for example.
