Looks like the rumors were real, again the partnership between Xiaomi and Leica it materializes. After more than half a decade of collaboration between Huawei and Leica, the two companies have decided to go in different directions, and now Xiaomi will brand its phones with the German logo. The inaugural phone is Xiaomi 12 Ultra.
What has Leica done lately? He tried his luck in Japan with his own phone, known as the Leitz Phone, a limited edition, and also collaborated with Sharp on a phone or two. We’ve seen leaks and renderings for this model before, and one thing’s for sure: it won’t bring a secondary screen back to its predecessor.
What will be on board is the newly announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. We also have an official video detailing the partnership between Leica and Xiaomi and you can see it below. In it, at around 2:20, we are talking about a new photo sensor with a generous dynamic range, which could be that Sony IMX989 of almost 1 inch, with a resolution of 50 megapixels. Chances are we’ll see a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a telescopic telephoto camera with unknown resolution.
We expect at least 5X optical zoom and 120X digital zoom. As for Huawei, it seems that the P50 and P50 Pro were its last Leica branded phones. The story started with Huawei P9, when it collaborated with Leica, it was inaugurated in 2016.
