Young Portuguese man rescued from cargo ship after accident


















A 22-year-old Portuguese young man was, on Friday night, rescued from the cargo ship “Insular”, after having suffered an accident on board that left him with a serious injury to his finger.

At the time of the distress call, the vessel was seven nautical miles, equivalent to about 13 kilometers, from the port of Lisbon.

In a statement, the Portuguese Navy states that the alert was given at 10 pm, and a vessel from the Cascais Salva-Vidas Station was mobilized.

In addition, around 11:00 pm, the ship was diverted to Cascais Bay, where the crew member was assisted by INEM elements who transported him to a hospital unit.

This was an action by the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), in conjunction with the Guidance Center for Urgent Patients – Maritimes (CODU-MAR).

The young man is expected to make a full recovery and be released from the hospital soon.

The Portuguese Navy has praised the quick response of the crew and the emergency services and has thanked everyone involved in the rescue for their dedication and hard work.
