In 1973, under the slogan “Zürich rides on the rims”, demonstrations were held for a better bicycle infrastructure and a traffic policy that was less geared towards car traffic.
A colorful procession with bicycles converted into trees, animals or little gardens that can be driven will be moving through Zurich’s city center on June 23rd. The 70 to 100 cyclists propagate the bicycle as a healthy and environmentally friendly means of transport.
The so-called “fun trip” was organized by the WWF managing director and later National Councilor Roland Wiederkehr and the painter Peter Rüfenacht.
Velo demo in Zurich
Even 50 years later, the same demands are being made to politicians as they were then. That is why the approved Velodemo will take place on June 3, 2023 on International Bicycle Day. The meeting is at 4:30 p.m. on Helvetiaplatz.
In the run-up to the celebration of the anniversary year, a small group of bikes will cycle through Zurich for 50 hours without a break. At every full hour, cyclists can join the climate pavilion on Werdmühleplatz and draw attention to the issue.
