Barcelona sporting director and former star Deco, today, Wednesday, nominated an Italian coach to lead Barcelona in the event of the dismissal of Xavi Hernandez.
Xavi’s future with Barcelona is in doubt, following the loss of the Spanish Super Cup final to Real Madrid (4-1), in addition to the team’s occupancy of fourth place in La Liga.
According to the Spanish newspaper “Sport”, President Joan Laporta expressed his support for Xavi to continue in his position, but the latter stressed that his stay is not guaranteed and is linked to several matters, including winning tournaments and supporting and trusting the players.
The Spanish newspaper revealed, “Deco intends to suggest the name of Thiago Motta, the Bologna coach, in the event that Xavi does not continue with Barca.”
She pointed out, “Motta has had a special relationship with Deco ever since they shared the locker room as Barcelona players.”
She stated, “Motta is performing well this season with Bologna, where he occupies seventh place in the Italian League, two points behind the Champions League qualifying positions.”
