All imported gold will be inspected and labeled before entering the markets »

Baghdad – IA

The Ministry of Planning announced today, Saturday, that all types of gold will be examined and labeled before it enters the markets.

The official spokesman for the ministry, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, said in a statement received by the (INA) that “this measure came after the entry into force of Council of Ministers Resolution No. (23671) of 2023 as of the first of this month of December,” adding that “the agency The Central Standardization and Quality Control Center received more than (25) kg of imported gold during the past two weeks in the form of shipments that were imported from outside Iraq.

He added, “The device was able to inspect and label all the quantities it received and deliver them to their owners,” noting that “the device’s standardization department provided all the inspection and labeling requirements in record time, through the use of modern, high-precision devices in this process.”

He pointed out that “the Council of Ministers’ decision specified that the imported gold be made by a company registered with the Companies Registrar Department in the Federal Ministry of Commerce, and is allowed to transfer commercially through the banking system, provided that the import of gold is exclusively through air ports, and the General Tax Authority demarcates it.” The Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control is responsible for examining and labeling it, while the General Authority of Customs is responsible for the procedures for protecting it and delivering it to the agency.

Al-Hindawi stressed that “the recent measures included in the Council of Ministers’ decision will contribute greatly to reducing fraud, because the imported gold will be sent directly to the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control, with customs protection, for the purpose of examining and labeling it, before it enters the markets.”
