Iran: Dismantling a major network specialized in kidnapping foreigners

/ The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced, on Saturday, the dismantling of a major network specialized in kidnapping foreign nationals in the country.

The Public Relations Department at the Hamzah Sayyid al-Shuhada headquarters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said that 4 members of one of the main networks active in kidnapping foreign nationals in the city of Khoy were arrested.

The commander of the Hamzah Sayyid al-Shuhada headquarters, Brigadier General Ali Akbar Burjmashidian, said in this regard, “A gang kidnapping foreign hostages in areas of the border city of Khoy (in West Azerbaijan province – northwest of the country) fell into the grip of the operational forces affiliated with this headquarters.”

Brigadier General Burjmashidian added, “The operation to arrest this network was carried out at dawn yesterday, Friday, which led to the arrest of 4 members of one of the main networks active in the crimes of kidnapping, smuggling, stealing and torturing foreign nationals.”

It is noteworthy that a group of Iraqi citizens were kidnapped during the past periods in Iran, and video clips published on social media sites at the time showed the kidnappers being shackled in chains.
