Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez admitted that his team played the worst match, after the defeat by Real Madrid (4-1).
Real Madrid won the Spanish Super Cup at the expense of Barcelona, at Al Awal Park Stadium in Riyadh.
Xavi said during statements reported by the Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo”: “We feel disappointed and sad. It is unfortunate. We were filled with hope and enthusiasm, and then we played the worst match ever.”
He added: “We started the match very poorly, and after the third goal it got worse. We were not comfortable at any time, and we have to apologize to the fans because it was difficult for us to compete.”
He continued: “I suffered many defeats during my career and in the end we recovered. Barcelona will return.”
He continued: “It will certainly be difficult days, and will bear a lot of criticism that we will have to accept. We have not reached the level we want, but we have to recover and think about the remaining titles.”
He stressed: “We were very bad in defense, we were not good at pressing, and we lacked a lot in the first 10 minutes, and our only reaction was Lewandowski’s goal.”
He explained: “Real Madrid knew how to exploit the speed of Vinicius and Rodrigo to the maximum extent.”
He continued: “We have to compete for the remaining three titles, and to this day the club cannot include any deals to give the team a qualitative leap.”
He concluded: “A year ago we were talking confidently about a new era, and now things are going wrong, but we have to make a change.”
