Former Spanish football player, Gerard Pique, announced on the X platform his return to the fields of green grass, but this time from the training portal and not as a player.
Pique retired in November 2022 after spending most of his career with Barcelona, and took over supervision of the “Kings League” entertainment project, before announcing his desire to return to football, according to the Spanish newspaper “Marca”.
Pique said: “It is a new year and after careful consideration I have decided to return to football as a coach,” explaining that he “will share more details about his future move at the end of the week.”
The player, who won with La Roja in the 2010 World Cup, bid farewell to professional football in the home base of his Barcelona team, Camp Nou, after a career during which he won a number of local and European titles. Now, after more than a year, the Barcelona legend has confirmed that he misses football.
Pique arrived at Barcelona at the age of ten before leaving Catalonia in 2004 to join the English academy of Manchester United, with whom he won the local league title and the Champions League in 2008, before returning in the same year to his childhood club.
With Barcelona, he won eight Spanish League titles, the Champions League three times (2009, 2011 and 2015), the King’s Cup seven times, in addition to other titles.
He played with the Spanish national team between 2009 and 2018, winning the 2010 World Cup and the 2012 European Cup before retiring from international football after the World Cup in Russia.
