From January to September of this year, the United States sold $86 billion worth of oil on the global market – becoming its main export product for the first time since 2009.
According to data from the US Federal Bureau of Statistics, from 2009 to 2021, aircraft and petroleum products topped the list of main US export products. Aircraft occupied first place in 2009 and 2010, as well as six years from 2015 to 2020, and petroleum products occupied first place in the remaining years.
The situation changed in 2022, when oil displaced aircraft from second place for the first time, and a year later – petroleum products, and this happened thanks to a significant reduction in the cost of oil supplies by 19% to 83 billion dollars, while oil exports also decreased on an annual basis by 19%. 3% to $86 billion.
It is noteworthy that crude oil entered the top five positions for the first time in 2018.
Aircraft came in third place, as their sales abroad rose by 19% to reach $81 billion, and gas, which entered the top five only in 2021, ranked fourth this year amid the cost of supplies falling by about a third to $50 billion. Finally, the top five is completed by cars (+11%, $48 billion).
