The Ministry of Interior issues a clarification regarding the cessation of dealing with the paper issuance of civil status identification

Today, Thursday, the General Directorate of Civil Status, Passports and Residency of the Ministry of Interior issued a clarification regarding the cessation of dealing with the paper issuance of civil status ID and nationality certificate after next March 1.

The Directorate said in a statement received by the (INA): “The General Directorate of Civil Status, Passports and Residence affirms its commitment to providing the best services to citizens and that work will not stop and will continue to issue the national card after the date of 3/1/2024.”
She added, “The purpose of stopping dealing with old paper documents (civil status ID and citizenship certificate) is to move from paper work to the electronic system that achieves a qualitative shift in the services provided to citizens.”
She pointed out, “This procedure includes, as a first stage, only citizens inside Iraq, as old paper documents (civil status ID and nationality certificate) will not be dealt with, and the national card will be a substitute for them when they visit state departments for the purpose of completing a transaction after this date.”
She continued, “The current procedure does not apply to Iraqis residing abroad, and that there are other regulatory measures in the future that will ensure the continued improvement of services to the citizen.”
