The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday the release of the two citizens who were kidnapped by gunmen in Nigeria weeks ago.
The two men were kidnapped after gunmen ambushed their convoy in Nigeria’s oil-producing Niger Delta region on December 12, killing 4 soldiers guarding the group and two civilian drivers.
Seoul said in a statement that its two citizens are currently in good health, and after conducting tests in the hospital, they moved to a safe area and spoke with their families, and the ministry did not reveal how they were released.
Militant attacks have decreased in the Niger Delta, but the region is turbulent and suffers from the theft of crude oil and sabotage of pipelines, which has negatively affected oil production in Nigeria.
