Washington state court refuses to disqualify Trump from primaries

A Washington state court refused to exclude former US President Donald Trump from the Republican Party primaries in preparation for participating in the upcoming presidential elections.

“Washington state’s decision reflects similar decisions in more than a dozen federal courts, as well as state courts in Michigan, Minnesota, and Oregon,” Trump campaign spokesman Stephen Chung said in a statement.

Despite these decisions, other courts have ruled otherwise, with the Colorado Supreme Court previously ruling to exclude Trump from primary election proceedings.

The judges considered his alleged involvement in the “insurrection,” that is, the storming of the Capitol building on January 6, 2021 in an attempt to obstruct Congress’s approval of the victory of his then rival, Democrat Joe Biden, as a basis for excluding this politician from running in the primary elections.

Media reported earlier that lawsuits were calling for Trump to be prevented from running in the elections on the basis of the same Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution.
