Today, Sunday, the Executive Committee of the West Asian Football Federation held its thirty-second meeting, and the first for the year 2024, under the chairmanship of Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, President of the West Asian Football Federation, to discuss many items and axes, and it was attended by the President of the Iraqi Football Federation, Adnan Darjal, a member of the Executive Office of the Asian Football Confederation. A statement from the Football Association, received by the (INA), stated that “the meeting coincided with the events of the ongoing Asian Cup competitions in the Qatari capital, Doha, and was held at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.”
He added, “The Executive Committee reviewed the report of the activities that the Federation has accomplished since the last meeting of the committee in 2023, in addition to the proposals included on the 2024 agenda. According to the report, last year the Federation organized the third West Asian Federation Championship for Women, which took place in Lebanon, and the fourth Football Championship.” The electronic championship was held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the National Earthlink U-23 Championship hosted by Iraq, the fourth championship for female juniors in Jordan, the second championship for promising girls in Jordan, and the tenth championship for juniors in Oman.”
He continued, “The 2024 agenda included many activities and tournaments, as it was proposed to hold the tenth men’s tournament during the summer period or the end of the year, in line with the international and Asian agenda, while the fifth U-23 tournament is in March during the FIFA days. In preparation for the teams before the Asian qualifiers, The fourth youth tournament was proposed on June 25 in Saudi Arabia, the eleventh junior tournament in August 2024, as well as the sixth under-23 tournament during the FIFA days in the last quarter of the year as part of a strategy to prepare the teams before participating in the upcoming Asian qualifiers for this category. “The sixth men’s tournament will be held in March 2024 in Iraq, with the aim of developing the game in the region and before the Asian finals.”
He continued, “During the meeting, it was proposed to organize the third West Asian Beach Soccer Federation Championship during the last quarter of the year, and to discuss this matter with the Omani Federation. Among the tournaments that the Federation also intends to hold is the fifth electronic football championship during June, and the eighth women’s championship in February in Saudi Arabia, the third championship for women’s clubs in Saudi Arabia during the last quarter of the year, and the fifth championship for young women in December. The committee also approved the federation’s strategy for the year 2024, as the federation seeks to organize high-level tournaments and development activities to raise the level of football in the region. In addition, the Executive Committee on the West Asian Football Federation “WAFF FOUNDATION” project, and the cooperation agreement with the Gulf Cup Federation, which aims to organize tournaments between the two federations and develop football.
