Thirst threatens the lives of residents and those displaced as a result of the aggression on Gaza »

The water crisis in Gaza threatens hundreds of thousands of residents and displaced people with “thirst,” and the crisis has worsened with the overcrowding of Rafah Governorate, south of the Strip, with about 1.8 million people, most of whom were displaced from the north and center, fleeing the ongoing Zionist aggression.

The head of the Water Authority in the Gaza Strip, Mazen Al-Banna, said, “The continuous Zionist bombing of infrastructure and water treatment and desalination plants deprived hundreds of thousands of Palestinians of their right to potable water, after these facilities completely stopped working, either due to destruction or exhaustion of the necessary fuel.” To operate it, especially in northern Gaza.
Al-Banna warned that “the Water Authority is no longer able to work under these exceptional circumstances due to the extent of the massive destruction that befell the water system at all levels, and in light of the accumulation of displaced people in small geographical areas where it is difficult to meet the needs of the population.”
The Palestinian official stated that “the water that the people of the Gaza Strip drink is not completely drinkable, because it has not gone through sufficient sterilization and desalination stages, due to the region’s need for huge quantities of water,” and pointed out that “the citizen’s share in Gaza does not exceed one liter of water, which means “The population is suffering from thirst.”
For his part, the mayor of Rafah, Ahmed Al-Sufi, said, “The displacement has multiplied the population in the Strip 10 times, forcing the water stations to operate at 10 times their operational capacity.”
He added, “The municipality formed an emergency committee to provide drinking water and other things, through coordination with transport tankers and with the United Nations to provide the necessary fuel.”
Al-Sufi warned of the spread of diseases, especially intestinal diseases, as a result of residents being forced to drink from unclean water, noting the spread of many cases of “diarrhea and vomiting,” especially among children.
