FIFA Announces Unprecedented Entertainment Plans for 2026 World Cup Final
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has officially announced the comprehensive details for the closing ceremony of the 2026 World Cup. The event is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, at the stadium in New York New Jersey, widely known as MetLife Stadium. The organizing committee intends to reshape the history of the tournament and update its traditions by presenting a massive, unprecedented entertainment and performance program that mimics the famous American Super Bowl shows. This initiative marks the first time FIFA has officially integrated football, global music, and humanitarian social impact into a singular event.
Closing Ceremony: A 90-Minute Spectacle
The closing ceremony is designed to celebrate the 39-day journey that united the world across Canada, Mexico, and the United States. According to official FIFA announcements, the program will span 90 minutes, beginning 90 minutes prior to the kickoff of the final match. The event will feature two distinct musical and performance segments.

The American singer Austin Richard Post, known as Post Malone, is the headline act for the closing ceremony. He is tasked with delivering an exceptional performance designed to ignite the enthusiasm of the crowd. Alongside Post Malone, the ceremony will feature a constellation of global stars, including:
- Hollywood star Tom Cruise, who will make a special and unique appearance.
- Italian singer Laura Pausini.
- International artist Nicole Scherzinger.
- British star Robbie Williams.
- American content creator Darren Jason Watkins Jr., known as IShowSpeed.
Furthermore, Jennifer Hudson, an artist who has won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony (EGOT) awards, will have the honor of performing the national anthem of the United States just before the final match begins.
The First Halftime Show in FIFA History
For the first time in the history of FIFA, the final match—which is scheduled to start at 10:00 PM Mecca time—will include a live musical performance during the break between the two halves. This Halftime Show is intended to break the stagnation of the interval and carries exceptional production and artistic details.
The performance is a fast-paced Megamix production lasting 11 full minutes. It is being produced by the global organization Global Citizen in partnership with Live Nation and Done + Dusted. Chris Martin, lead singer of the band Coldplay, is overseeing the comprehensive artistic direction of the show. In a short film announcing the lineup, Martin stated that the performance would be entirely based on the idea of being together… and everyone is invited.

The halftime show will feature an array of global icons, including Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira, and the South Korean K-pop group BTS. Additionally, the show will feature a special appearance by Afrobeats star Burna Boy, who will perform the global hit song Dai Dai in a joint piece with Shakira. The performance will also include the globally renowned Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, the music and artistic director of the New York Philharmonic, as well as the Webby Award-winning PS 22 Chorus, accompanied by Coldplay.
The event will also see a notable presence of characters from Sesame Street and the famous The Muppets, whose names have been linked across generations to spreading joyful education for children. Their inclusion is intended to reinforce the educational and humanitarian purpose of the show.
Regulatory and Logistical Considerations
Reports indicate that the duration of the halftime break may be extended to accommodate this production. While the standard duration for a halftime break is currently 15 minutes, expectations suggest it could be extended to between 20 and 30 minutes. FIFA regulations state that the duration of the halftime break may be amended with the approval of the match referee. FIFA has previously introduced a 3-minute hydration break during matches, which statistics show has generated significant advertising revenue.

Although the proposed extension to 25 minutes for the final is unprecedented, it would not be the first time such an extension has occurred in a FIFA-sanctioned event; some FIFA Club World Cup matches have previously seen halftime breaks extended to approximately 25 minutes. As of the latest reports, FIFA has not issued a formal, final confirmation regarding the definitive adoption of the 25-minute break duration for the final.
Tournament Context
The final match will feature Spain against Argentina, following their respective victories over France and England in the semi-finals. Prior to this summit, the England national team will face the French team on Saturday, July 18, in a match to determine third and fourth place. This closing ceremony follows a successful series of musical performances that accompanied the tournament, which were inaugurated by Shakira and Burna Boy with the song Dai Dai, and included appearances by Future, Katy Perry, Michael Bublé, Alanis Morissette, and Ellie Goulding.
