Record-Breaking U.S. Television Audience
A combined total of 62.8 million viewers tuned in across English and Spanish-language platforms. This figure more than doubles the 25.78 million who watched the 2022 final between Argentina and Spain (16.78 million on Fox and 9 million on Telemundo and Peacock). Sunday’s audience was the largest ever in the United States for any soccer match by almost 17 million viewers, surpassing the U.S. team’s loss to Belgium in the round of 16, which previously held the high mark with 45.99 million viewers.
Fox Sports reported that its English-language coverage reached 38,937,000 viewers, cementing its status as the most-watched soccer telecast in U.S. history. The broadcast peaked with 51,685,000 viewers from 5:45-6 p.m. ET, coinciding with the extra-time winning goal by Ferran Torres in the 106th minute. On Fox, viewership for the final was up 132% over the 2022 World Cup final telecast. Furthermore, the match marked the most-watched non-NFL telecast on any network since 2016, when the World Series Game 7 on Fox scored 40.05 million viewers.

Spanish-language viewership was similarly robust. Telemundo and Peacock recorded 23.9 million viewers for the final, making it the most-watched soccer match ever in Spanish-language media history. This performance topped the 2026 Mexico-England match, which stands as the second most-watched soccer match ever in Spanish-language media history with 23.2 million viewers.
Global Reach and Cultural Impact
The 2026 FIFA World Cup demonstrated the value of home-team interest, with audiences skyrocketing when national teams remained in the tournament. In the United Kingdom, the BBC reported an average of 13.9 million viewers for the final, with peak audiences reaching 15.8 million on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. The BBC enjoyed a 64% share of all TV viewing for the match, which saw Ferran Torres’ extra-time strike seal Spain’s second World Cup triumph. Additionally, the final was streamed 11.1 million times on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app, including 2.4 million UHD streams.
