Nine people reported symptoms of gastroenteritis after a recent voyage on the Disney Adventure cruise, which sailed from March 16 to 19. The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) is investigating the incident, which affected eight passengers and one crew member.
Disney Adventure Cruise Investigated for Gastroenteritis Cases
The individuals developed gastroenteritis symptoms between March 19 and March 20, according to the SFA. None required hospitalization and all those affected have since recovered.
As of March 27, the nine reported cases are the only ones linked to the cruise, the agency stated.
Gastroenteritis is characterized by inflammation of the stomach and intestines and can be caused by bacteria like salmonella or viruses such as norovirus. Both bacteria and viruses can spread through poor food handling, contaminated food or water, inadequate hygiene, close contact with infected individuals, or contact with contaminated surfaces.
The Disney Adventure embarked on its inaugural voyage on March 10. The ship is Disney Cruise Line’s largest, with a capacity for up to 6,700 passengers and 20 decks across seven themed areas.
The cruise is a “cruise to nowhere,” meaning it does not include scheduled port stops. Disney Cruise has been contacted for further information regarding the incident.
