A Queenstown condominium resident says a chicken caused her to drive her car into a wall, resulting in $4,200 in vehicle repairs. The resident was subsequently billed $352 by the condo management for damage to the wall.
Chicken Causes Car Crash, Condo Resident Faces Additional Fees
The incident occurred in September as the resident was driving towards the condo carpark gantry. According to the resident, a rooster suddenly appeared in her path. She slowed down but her vehicle’s left side collided with the wall at the carpark entrance while she checked to see if the chicken had been hit.
- The resident incurred $4,200 in vehicle repair costs.
- Condo management billed the resident an additional $352 for wall damage.
- The resident has escalated the matter to the Strata Titles Board.
The resident reported that concerns have been raised among residents regarding wildlife roaming freely within the condo estate. Despite the condo management stating there have been “no sightings of roosters in the condo,” the resident shared a video showing chickens within the condo compound.
The resident questioned whether the wall was already damaged before the collision and requested proof of repairs from the condo management, which she claims was refused. She stated that her emails to management have gone unanswered.
“I already suffered a $4,200 loss. Instead of addressing the root cause — wild animals roaming inside the property — I was told to pay another $352. They refused to provide the repair details,” the resident said. “This feels very unfair.”
The resident hopes sharing her experience will raise awareness about estate safety and maintenance. Stomp has contacted the condo management for comment.
