Philippine authorities have warned police and military personnel against indiscriminate firing of firearms during New Year celebrations, with penalties including dismissal from service and criminal charges. The strict enforcement of a “One-Strike Policy” is part of heightened security measures for the holiday season and the approach of New Year 2026.

Zero Tolerance for Gunfire

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is implementing a zero-tolerance policy regarding unauthorized gunfire. PNP Chief has stated that any officer who uses a firearm to welcome the new year may face dismissal. Similar warnings have been issued to troops of the Philippine Army.

Central Luzon police have been specifically warned of potential dismissal and criminal charges for any instances of indiscriminate firing. The One-Strike Policy means that any unit or personnel found to have engaged in such activity will be held accountable.

Authorities are emphasizing the dangers posed by stray bullets and the importance of responsible firearm handling during the festivities. The measures aim to ensure public safety and prevent injuries or fatalities associated with New Year’s celebrations.
