A traffic accident in Tukums municipality, Latvia, on Sunday resulted in three fatalities after a passenger car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a truck, according to State Police.
Fatal Collision on Ventspils Motorway
The accident involved a total of five vehicles on the Ventspils motorway. Initial reports indicate the driver of a Toyota lost control of the vehicle, veering into the opposite lane and striking a Volvo truck.
Three individuals traveling in a Toyota Hilux were killed in the collision. Subsequently, three additional cars were involved in further collisions.
Authorities have initiated criminal proceedings to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
One of the victims has been identified as Ernests Moisejs, a former member of the Salaspils municipality council and member of the National Alliance.
The accident occurred in an area with good visibility and a flat road surface. Latvijas Valsts Celi (LVC), the road maintenance company, confirmed to Latvian Television (LTV) that the road had been cleared multiple times prior to the incident.
